About me and about the blog
I’m James. I’m English A 35-year old (now former) marketing and content professional from the south coast of England. I’ve lived in Manly – a beach side suburb of Sydney – for the past five years with my fiance. We moved over from the UK is search of a better life and barring a few teething problems, everything had gone perfectly:
✔Great group of friends made
✔Decent jobs secured
✔Sponsorship and now Permanent Residency achieved
✔Loving beach side living
Until recently (End of February/start of March), the impact of the coronavirus on us personally had been minimal. Travel was allowed, virus cases (in Australia at least) were at a minimum and our jobs were secure and we were looking forward to another excellent year, living in paradise, saving up for our dream home – which we hoped to be able to buy in Sydney in 2021.
However, this positivity was not to last.
On Monday 16 March 2020, my fiance lost her job as an Events Manager due to the coronavirus. No events allowed = no jobs in the events industry.
On Tuesday 17 March 2020, I lost my job as Head of Marketing at an Online Cruise Agency due to the coronavirus. The cruise industry, along with the rest of the travel industry, has been decimated by coronavirus. No travel allowed = no travel industry.
Quarantine in Paradise provides a daily update of how the coronavirus situation is impacting our daily lives, and the lives of others living in Manly.
Starting on 17 March 2020.
Let’s see how this unfolds…
