Photos from isolation (month one)

18 April 2020

Today marks one month since my first daily post. So, rather than the increasingly monotonous daily update, I thought I’d take some time to go through the photographs that I’ve taken in the past month of madness and share these.

Here, in no particular order, are a few of my favourite shots.

A seal comes to visit Manly

Photo taken: 19 March 2020 – featured in post ‘Time to get productive ft. the Manly seal

One of my first posts. This picture shows a fur seal (bottom left ) basking in the morning sunlight and enjoying the view of Sydney’s Northern Beaches in the background.

Sunrise from the Fairy Bower

Photo taken: 31 March 2020 – featured in post ‘The sun will rise again

Getting up to watch the sunrise over Manly beach is is one of my favourite activities. The Fairy Bower swimming pool on the Manly to Shelly beach walking track offers some great photo opportunities on a calm morning.

A cruise ship enters Sydney Harbour

Photo taken: 22 March 2020 – featured in my ‘The day it all changed

The photo shows Ovation of the Seas (one of the largest cruise ships in the world) entering Sydney Harbour. This came just a day after the port authorities allowed passengers on board the Ruby Princess to disembark in Sydney Harbour despite the ship being rife with coronavirus. Ruby Princess has since accounted for nearly one third off all COVID-19 deaths across Australia.

A kite surfer on Manly beach

Photo taken: 4 April 2020 – not featured in any posts

On an afternoon walk, I was in the right place and the right time to get this snap of a kite surfer enjoying the windy afternoon conditions. Once again, the Fairy Bower provides a great focal point for the photograph and frame for the kite surfer.

A water dragon on the Spit to Manly walk

Photo taken: 2 April 2020 – featured in post ‘The Spit to Manly walk

The Spit to Manly walk is one of Sydney’s most picturesque harbourside strolls. The 10 kilometre route allows you to experience the best of Sydney’s beaches, vistas and wildlife. On this particular venture, one of the local water dragons was situated with a rather beautiful backdrop of Balmoral beach.

The sun rises over Manly beach

Photo taken: 31 March 2020 – featured in post ‘The sun will rise again

Another shot of the sun rising over Manly. I like how this photo captures all of the morning activity going on the beach – you can see swimmers, kayaks, surfers, a SUP boarder and a runner (bottom right) in the shot.

Sydney’s Northern Beaches and a Honeyeater

Photo taken: 7 April 2020 – not featured in any posts

This is one of my favourite viewpoints in Manly. You can see Manly beach, Freshwater Beach, Dee Why beach and all the way up the headland to Palm Beach. When taking this photo a New Holland Honeyeater decided to come and pose for me. This really made the photo.

The sun sets over ‘The Office’

Photo taken: 15 April 2020 – Not featured in any posts

This is a photo I have taken hundreds of times. But it never gets old. I love the sunset from East Esplanade in Manly – known as ‘The Office’ to locals. It rarely disappoints.

All photos were taken using my Fujifilm X-T10.
