5 April 2020
For anyone who knows me or has been reading this blog, you’ll know that running is an important part of my life. As well as keeping me active and helping to keep the pounds off, I also find it meditative and it is by far the best way for me to clear my head of any negativity.
Sadly, I’ve been running more than my knees are happy with, so I’m having to take some time off. My aim is to complete 1,000km of running per year. As of today, I’ve now reached 335km in 2020 – a third of the way there. On this basis, I’ve decided to take the rest of April off, in an attempt to heal my aching knees. Hopefully this will mean that I can enjoy running for the rest of the year.

As of today, Manly beach has now officially been closed for all activities including running, swimming and surfing. So this makes my decision a little easier. No beach runs available.

I’m not the sort of person who can sit still, sadly. So I’ve decided I want to replace the running with some other activities in April. Swimming is my usual go to as a back-up for a run, but all my regular swimming pool and all ocean pools are closed due to coronavirus. Therefore, I’m going to try some regular ocean swims as my replacement cardiovascular exercise. Today, I enjoyed my first ‘proper’ swim at our nearest Harbour beach and managed 1,500 meters before I got, cold/bored/freaked out.

Swimming alone won’t cut it though. So this week I’m looking to try yoga and meditation as well as ramping up my home workouts. I’ll also look to mix-up the walking to get out of the house.
Not much else to report on today I’m afraid folks.
Today’s headline photo was taken on my walk this morning. The picture shows a number of swimmers enjoying the Manly to Shelly beach swim – I hope to try this for myself later this week.
